What can I say? Friday came and went in a blur, just like the red-bellied woodpecker who inspired this poem!

flashing his red cap,
forest archeologist
drills for hidden grubs

  1. Woodpeckers were a new-to-me species when I moved to Ohio. They still thrill me when I see them at the feeder or on the trees in our neighborhood. I love tracking them to their tree trunk by their rat-a-tat-tat. (Hmm…I think I just wrote my #haikuforhealing for today!)
