Poetry Friday: A Golden Shovel

Last week I shared the section of Walt Whitman’s Song of Myself  that includes this line:

“…you shall possess the good of the earth and sun…”

As I read and reread this poem, a Golden Shovel started to form in my mind.

  1. I love the organic nature of writing–one piece sparking another! Your golden shovel is simply lovely (“revel in radiance”!) and with a such a beautiful message. You’ve reminded me (again!) that I really would like to try writing in this form.

  2. I say this every time I read a Golden Shovel poem, but I really need to try this. May we all use our gifts in ways that revel in the radiance of the sun! Beautiful poem and perfect image!

  3. I too have been writing golden shovels this week, Catherine. I like them lots, as a form to play with. Mine was for my Antarctic WIP – working facts into it, and keeping it in specific sequence, which is another challenge. I particularly love your first three lines. What a way to start!
